An Adventurous Lake District Wedding on a Glorious August Day
I love when a wedding day feels like the Lake District itself.
New House Farm sits in the heart of Lorton Vale, stone barns wrapped in meadow and fell, and it was the perfect backdrop for Vicky and John’s sun-soaked August “I do.” The plan was simple: keep the morning relaxed, make the ceremony meaningful, have a fun cocktail hour surrounded by family and friends and then go chase a little ‘just the two of us’ time on adventure for portraits. Summer delivered in spades.
A sunny start at New House Farm
The ceremony was personal and oh-so-meaningful. A beautifully orchestrated entrance that flowed into vows. The New House Farm team were so efficient with organising everything, gently guiding the timings and keeping the calm. Confetti whirled through sunbeams in the courtyard, and the couple were mobbed with hugs before drinks on the lawn.
Portraits that feel like you and like the Lakes!
We’d planned a short escape straight after the group photos, so the newlyweds slipped into walking shoes and we headed for the water. In August, the edges of Crummock Water/Buttermere glow; paths are friendly, the breeze is honest, and the light bounces like a mirror. We kept things moving, no stiff posing just wandering, laughing and finding little pockets of quiet.
Thinking of doing this yourselves? Bring comfy shoes, a spare layer, and say yes to the breeze. The “wild” in wild portraits is more about attitude than altitude—we’ll keep it safe, fun and totally you. You don’t have to hike a summit. Lakeshore paths and low fell viewpoints give huge drama with minimal effort.
